I live and work in sunny Seattle. Professional information is here: http://www.linkedin.com/in/amymichaels.
I am lucky enough to be paid to do something I love, which is building and marketing Web sites and services. In the mid-90s, while finishing a Ph.D. in Medieval Literature, I started writing HTML. In those days, I knocked on the doors of galleries in Pioneer Square, offering to build online catalogs in Notepad in exchange for art. Since then, I have worked at Microsoft leading Marekting and Product Management teams to develop the value propositions, feature requirements, and launch plans for major and minor sites, services, and applications.
I believe very strongly that the best Marketing is not separate from the product but built into it, and no campaign or feature can ever compensate for a product that fails fundamentally to engage, serve, and build relationships with customers on their terms.
Over the years, I’ve collected things that work in Product Management and things that don’t. I remain completely fascinated with experimenting and innovating using the sites, services, gadgets, widgets, feeds, and technologies that continue to emerge. This blog is about my experience and ongoing exploration with them.
